Their shocking revelation unfolded during a court hearing at the Leoben Regional Court on July 16. The duo faced charges of involvement in a terrorist organization as well as a criminal organization, as outlined by Austrian media outlets. The Austrian publication Kleine Zeitung disclosed that the pair had been active members of a radical online chat group. Within this group, disturbing details emerged as they discussed their access to a cache of weaponry including swords, knives, and firearms. Chillingly, the teenagers declared themselves to be in the "final phase of making explosives."
A key figure in their exchange, the older of the two teens, expressed his anger towards the West and boldly claimed a desire to "re-establish the caliphate." Their online dialogue also revealed unsettling ambitions, where they voiced a preference for explosives over what they deemed "boring knife attacks." Their sinister intentions were to inflict mass casualties. Incredibly troubling were their specific discussions about targeting Christian classmates, with the intention to "shoot all the Christians in the class." One deeply alarming aspect was the revelation that they had been on the brink of acquiring firearms, having attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to access a submachine gun through a friend's father. The boys even spoke about saving funds for their own firearms.
Equally unsettling was their misguided belief that surrendering to authorities following their potential act of violence would be met with divine forgiveness. The teenagers chillingly stated, "Killing Christians takes us to paradise," implying a warped and dangerous ideology that was at the heart of their sinister plot.
The Austrian law enforcement agency swung into action after receiving vital information from Dutch investigators who had obtained chat logs revealing the extent of their intentions. Following their arrest, the judicial system handed down a verdict that carries a significant message: each teenager was sentenced to two years in prison for "criminal conspiracy."
