Church members die in horrific accident on their way to fellowship

A group of church members from Kenya met a tragic end when their bus collided with a truck on their way to a fellowship meeting. The accident, which happened on Saturday, May 13, claimed the lives of 25 people and left 11 others injured.

The members belonged to the New Apostolic Church in Kenya and were travelling from Nairobi to Siavonga in Zambia for a regional church event. The bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a truck that was parked on the roadside.

The impact of the collision was so severe that most of the passengers died on the spot. Among the deceased were 24 women and one man. The survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The church issued a statement expressing its shock and sorrow over the accident and said it would provide material and moral support to the affected families and victims. The church also said it was waiting for an official report from the police and the road safety authorities.

The accident has raised concerns about the state of road safety in Kenya, where fatal crashes are common due to poor road conditions, speeding, drunk driving and overloading. According to the National Transport and Safety Authority, 3,114 people died in road accidents in Kenya in 2022.
