Expressing their joy, the Western America Province of the Capuchin Franciscans stated, "We are thrilled to share that our dear friend Shia LaBeouf has fully entered the church this past weekend through the sacrament of confirmation!" The post emphasized LaBeouf's deep commitment to his faith journey and his eagerness to embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Bishop Robert Barron of the Winona-Rochester diocese confirmed LaBeouf, solidifying his entrance into the Catholic Church. The confirmation ceremony unfolded at the Old Mission Santa Inés parish in Solvang, California – the very church where LaBeouf initially trained for his role in the film "Padre Pio," portraying the Italian Capuchin friar Pio of Pietrelcina.
Capuchin friar Alexander Rodriguez, who served as LaBeouf's confirmation sponsor, revealed in an interview with the Catholic News Agency (CNA) that the actor aspires to become a deacon "sometime in the future." Rodriguez attributed LaBeouf's inspiration to his involvement in "Padre Pio," where he expressed his desire to embrace a deeper connection with his faith.
In the CNA interview last June, LaBeouf shared insights into the filming experience, particularly in portraying a character deeply rooted in the Catholic faith.
