The plight of persecuted Christians in Iran has once again come under the spotlight with the release of the "Faceless Victims: Rights Violations Against Christians in Iran" report for 2023. This annual report, jointly presented by advocacy organizations Article18, Open Doors, Middle East Concern, and CSW (formerly Christian Solidarity Worldwide), sheds light on the alarming trend of religious persecution faced by Christians in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Esmaeil Narimanpour's story serves as a poignant example of the challenges faced by Iranian Christians. Despite facing religious reeducation attempts and repeated arrests, Narimanpour remains steadfast in his faith. His case is just one among many highlighted in the report, which documents a total of 166 arrests and 103 detentions of Christians in Iran during the reporting period.

The report's findings underscore the systematic targeting of Christians by Iranian authorities, with individuals subjected to arbitrary arrests, detainment, and imprisonment on charges related to their religious beliefs. Former prisoner Farhad Sabokrooh's testimony provides a chilling account of the harsh realities faced by Christians in Iran, including forced confessions, unjust sentencing, and threats of violence.
The release of the report coincides with the anniversary of the murder of Arastoo Sayyah, the first Christian martyr in post-revolutionary Iran, highlighting the longstanding challenges confronting Iranian Christians. Despite constitutional guarantees of religious freedom, ethnic Armenian and Assyrian Christian communities remain marginalized, while the broader Christian population faces systemic discrimination and persecution.
